The God Who Pursues You!

Read: Matthew 4:18

It was just another ordinary day.

Cast the net. Draw the net.

Cast the net. Draw the net.

The rhythm was seared inside their bones.

It’s what they did. It’s how they made their living.

It was an honorable trade with honest labor. They’d make their way through life by the strength of their backs and the sweat of their brow. They were fishermen. This was their routine. And, today was just another day… at least that’s how it began.

But what these men of the sea—Simon and Andrew—didn’t know was that today would be anything but ordinary. For in the midst of their routine they would have an encounter that would change their lives forever.

Cast the net. Draw the net.

Cast the net. Draw the net.

Cast: It’s what they were doing when Jesus saw them.

It’s interesting that’s how it starts.

He saw them.

The language is very specific:

And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.”

(Matthew 4:18 NKJV).

In the average, ordinary, mundane routine of life, Jesus went to them. Don’t let this discovery escape your attention. It’s not Simon and Andrew seeking Jesus in that moment. Instead, it’s the pursuit. It’s the story that has been played out time and again.

The Savior comes to you.

We serve a God who pursues. He chases. He’s willing to move heaven and earth to have you as His own.

This is what sets Him apart from all other gods. Buddhists, Hindus, Islamists—and those who walk in all other faiths—work extremely hard to reach up. To grasp their god. They go to incredible extremes to find him.

Jehovah God, the I AM, the God of Moses and Abraham, the God speaking, living and breathing through every page of the Bible, is the God who through His Son, Jesus Christ, reaches down to you.

Look closely.

He’s running toward you.

He pursues you!
